Induction
Level 2 operators can provide the Induction for level 1 certification and must, at a minimum, cover the following:
Level 1 Induction
- Screen the individual for MR contraindications and enter their details electronically into database
- Have them read the BIU Standard Operating Procedure, and the MRI Operating Rules (available on the WIKI)
- Have them view the 3 Phillips safety videos on the Wiki
- One to one review of three key hazards:
- Magnetic objects and other objects (e.g., pacemakers) vulnerable to magnets (highlight zone 1 and zone 2 and keeping doors closed, etc)
- Quenching (what it is, when and associated hazards, inc. oxygen depletion and burning, noting oxygen monitor)
- Noise-related safety
- Discuss coiling of wires
- Discuss hand clasping and leg crossing
- Highlight evacuation procedure, fire exits, and location of fire extinguishers (MR safe versus not).
- Review role of person B in emergency and fire-related emergencies
- Demonstrate getting subject in and out of scanner
- They also need to have the trainee complete the safety quiz (available from the level 1 safety officer) and see that this is done without access to notes.
